The ECaT project supports schools in developing their provision to give children a supportive and stimulating environment in which to practice and learn language. EYFS staff receive training to build on their knowledge of speech and language development. They are given time to improve their skills and expertise, learning how best to support children in a school setting. Classroom provision and staff interaction with children is observed, and an action plan is created. Staff are given tools with which to assess children’s communication and language development at a deeper level. This leads to enhanced practice and generates a greater focus on communication and language within the school.
