Our Approach to Teaching and Learning

Teaching is Central to What We Do: At Drayton Park, we believe that the quality of our teaching is fundamental to our children's success as learners. We seek to provide every child with the best teaching we can. Teachers work in teams throughout the year to develop their practice, by sharing ideas, challenging each other and engaging with external expertise. We work to a shared set of expectations about the quality of our teaching. You can see these in our Teaching and Learning Policy, along with the government's national standards for teachers.

An Evidence Based Approach: Our approach to teaching and learning is based on evidence. Education is very widely researched and over the years themes have emerged about what works well in classrooms. An overview of current research thinking can be found in the work of Professor John Hattie.


Our Philosophy: Running through all our teaching is a focus on a set of behaviours for learning, which we call the Drayton Park Way. This is about teaching children how to learn well. The Drayton Park Way involves five key aspects:
