During the school day, children are not allowed to have mobile phones in school. They are expensive and we do not want children to have the responsibility of looking after them. There is no reason why a child should need one during the school day.
However, we do understand that parents of children who travel to and from school on their own, may want their child to be able to contact them. Although we discourage it, we do allow children who walk to school on their own to bring in phones. They hand them into the office in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day. However, please note the following:
- We do not have a secure storage facility for phones in the office. There is always a member of staff in the office during the day and we have never had a problem with a child’s phone going missing from the office. However, we cannot take responsibility for any loss or damage caused to your child’s phone whilst it is in our office.
- In the past, we have had a couple of incidents of phones being snatched from parents outside the school gates. We are concerned about the safety of children who spend their journey to or from school with their phone very visible. Our policy is thus to discourage children from bringing phones to school at all.
- If you do want your child to have access to a phone before and after school, and to keep it in the office during the day, we ask you to complete a permission form. This is to ensure that we know which children have permission to bring in their phones and that you are aware of our mobile phone policy. You can download the form below or pick one up from the office.
